“My bathroom is too small’”, we hear it every day from our clients. If you’re like a lot of people you have a small bathroom you want to make feel larger. Unfortunately, a lot of people either don’t have the square footage to use for expansion or their budget doesn’t allow for it. So how do we make that tiny bathroom feel more spacious? I’m glad you asked because I have a few suggestions for you.

Start with your vanity. By using a pedestal sink or floating vanity, you eliminate some floor space. By seeing more of the floor you create the illusion of having more space than you actually do.

The same goes for your tub. A platform tub is often unnecessary and takes up space. Try a freestanding bathtub, not only are they beautiful but they will work in the same way as a floating vanity or pedestal sink, giving the illusion of having more floor space.

Skip the dark color palate. Nothing makes a room feel smaller than a dark color painted on the walls. Opt for something fresh and cool. Pick a soothing blue, white, or other neutral color to paint the walls and you’ll be amazed at how much bigger the bathroom feels.

Add light. Just like with a dark color palate, a room lacking in adequate light will appear smaller. So throw in some extra pendent lights or wall sconces and you’ll see the difference right away.

Work some magic with glass and mirrors. Adding glass tiles will help pick up light in the room and make it feel larger. Try running linear glass tiles vertically on the wall and the ceiling will appear taller. Add a large mirror behind the vanity and it will have the same effect. If you’re lacking on storage space, try a mirror that doubles as a medicine cabinet. Robern offers some beautiful and contemporary looking medicine cabinets that won’t take you back in time to your grandmother’s house.

Ditch the tiny floor tiles. I hear it all the time, “I have a small bathroom so I need a small floor tile.” This is a myth people. Actually the truth is the bigger the better. A lot of small grout lines make the floor space seem minimal, when you have fewer grout lines with a large tile it makes the floor seem continual. Try a 12x24 tile and you’ll be amazed at how much larger the floor seems.

So if you’re looking to renovate your small bathroom and make the most out of the space you have, try these suggestions to make it feel as large as possible. You won’t be disappointed with the outcome.
